The Vaccines for Children Program (VFC) supplies federally purchased free vaccines for immunizing eligible children in public and private practices - at no cost to participating private health care providers. Approximately 60 percent of U.S. children may be expected to benefit from the VFC Program. Patients through age 18 are eligible if they are:

  • enrolled in Medicaid or The Oregon Health Plan;
  • uninsured; or
  • American Indian/Alaskan Native.
Oregon's VFC Program was designed by a coalition of private and public sector health care professionals. The program aims to help Oregon reach its goal of having 90 percent of our children up-to-date with their immunization series by age two. Currently, 76.5 percent of Oregon's children are immunized on time.


Missed opportunities are a major barrier to timely immunizations. VFC reduces this barrier by making it possible for private providers to offer free vaccines in the office or clinic. Additionally, VFC offers substantial cost savings to enrolled providers.

Tdap Special Project

The Oregon Immunization Program has started a project promoting Tdap vaccinations statewide. This project will continue into 2009. Tdap will be made available to interested providers at no cost. This vaccine can be used to create outreach projects to any person indicated by ACIP recommendations. Click here for more information.
