FRONT A boundary or transition zone between two airmasses of different density, and thus of different temperature and/or moisture. A moving front is named according to the advancing airmass (cold front if colder air is advancing, warm front if warmer air is advancing). This "clash" of airmasses is often a significant source of lift; thus clouds and precipitation often accompany fronts given adequate moisture and instability.
