Stevens Welcomes Senator Wicker (R-Miss.) To Senate Commerce Committee

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) will be joining the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee during the second session of the 110th Congress.  Senator Wicker replaces Senator Trent Lott (R-Miss) who retired from the Senate at the end of last year.  Senator Wicker’s membership returns the total number of Republican members on the Committee to 11.  Wicker joins Vice Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska), and Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.), Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Tex.), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Gordon Smith (R-Ore.), John Ensign (R-Nev.), John Sununu (R-N.H.), Jim DeMint (R-S.C.), David Vitter (R-La.) and John Thune (R-S.D.).

“I am pleased to welcome Senator Wicker to the Commerce Committee,” said Vice Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska).  “I have had a good working relationship with Roger during his time as a Member of the House of Representatives, and I look forward to working with him on vital issues affecting our nation.”

Senator Wicker previously served in the United States House of Representatives from January 4, 1995 until December 31, 2007.  During his six terms as the representative for Mississippi’s First Congressional District, he was a member of the House Appropriations Committee and was the Deputy Republican Whip.
