Join us for this new 4 day introductory course customized especially for OYA! This evidence-based program uses cognitive behavioral intervention methods and addresses criminal conduct and chemical dependency. During the course you’ll learn how to help youth you work with gain control over their own thoughts and feelings. You'll also learn how to help them manage those thoughts and feelings in a prosocial manner.

The course is presented by the author of the Pathways series, Harvey Milkman, Ph.D. Topics included are:

  • Building Trust and Motivation to Change
  • Backsliding to drugs and crime
  • Zeroing in on Harm-Directive Thoughts
  • Handling Anger, Guilt and Depression
  • Fostering Stability and Growth
Recommended Prerequisite:

One member of your team should already be trained in the Core ATOD Training (CYT MET/CBT 5 + CBT 7). This prerequisite class is offered Oct 20 - 22 in Woodburn, OR. Please see this flyer for more information about the class.

Harvey Milkman, Ph.D., is Professor of Psychology at Metropolitan State College of Denver and Director for the Center for Interdisciplinary Studies, Denver, Colorado.
Who should take this course? This course is for anyone who works with youth with criminal conduct or chemical dependency issues: GLC's; Treatment Managers/YCUC's; Community Providers; Parole/Probation Officers; Detention Staff; Group Home Workers

This 4 day course costs $120 for non-OYA staff. All materials are provided.
