The purpose of Girls Circle is to encourage the development of strength, courage, confidence, honesty and communication skills for girls. The goal is to enhance girls' abilities so they are able to take full advantage of their talents, academic interests, career pursuits, and potential for healthy relationships. Girls Circle Facilitator Training aims to furnish adults with the knowledge, skills and support to effectively facilitate Girls Circles. Are you ready to join us?

  • A decrease in self-harming behavior
  • A decrease in rates of alcohol use
  • An increase in attachment to school

Your Presenters:
Kim Wilson is currently the Court Services Supervisor for Umatilla Youth Services in Pendleton, OR. She is a licensed trainer for Girls Circle, has been facilitating circles since 2004 and has provided leadership and technical assistance within the CEOJJC Region to support Girls Circles in several Oregon counties. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Economics from Eastern Oregon University.

Emma Pavich is a licensed trainer for Girls Circle and was previously employed as a licensed clinical social worker with the Girls Court Program in Hawaii. She has 30 years experience serving adolescents and their families, including those adolescents struggling with self-harming behaviors, substance abuse, violence and teen pregnancy. She has a Master’s Degree in Social Welfare from UCLA.

Who should take this course? These classes are for people who work with adolescent girls, and who will commit to starting a Girls Circle group,including: OYA staff from Oak Creek and Corvallis House; Community residential program staff, Juvenile Department staff; Community-based program staff.
Registration

This training is sponsored by a grant from the Oregon Commission for Children and Families and is coordinated by the Oregon Youth Authority (OYA). There is no cost for the training (participants responsible for meals and travel expenses). Part of the commitment to attend the training is to agree to start your own Girls Circle group and participate in a follow-up evaluation.

Please note: Enrollment is limited to 20 participants.
