New England COOP
Modernization Project

The New England project is separate from the National COOP Modernization Program but we want to apply the lessons learned where they can help us.

We are installing five beta test sites in New England as part of the High Resolution Temperature Program. The five sites are at or near the following WFOs: Burlington, Albany, Upton, Gray and Taunton. A sixth beta site will be located at the contractor's facility in Columbia, MD, for development and test work. All beta sites are scheduled to begin transmitting data to the Forecast Systems Laboratory in January. After a test and evaluation period, we will start deploying up to 200 modernized operational sites this spring. The actual number of sites that will be deployed has not yet been determined.
