    • Migration is driving population growth in the state. Between 2000 and 2004, Georgia had the fourth highest net domestic in-migration level in the country (Perry 2006).
    • The average number of people per housing unit remains high in Georgia. In Georgia, the number of individuals per housing unit has not declined as precipitously as in other parts of the country.
    • Between 1972 and 2004, 3.98 million acres of timberland in Georgia were converted to other land uses, including urban development and agriculture uses (Harper et al., n.d.; Sheffield and Johnson 1993; Sheffield and Knight 1984; Thompson and Thompson 2002).
