      This supplement to the papers of Thomas Jefferson is
comprised of previously undescribed parts of the original
collection and of recent additions received through purchase and
gift, 1974 to 1989. 

      The status of copyright in the unpublished writings of
Thomas Jefferson in these papers and in other collections of
papers in the custody of the Library of Congress is governed by
the Copyright Law of the United States (Title 17, U.S.C.)

    Readers interested in consulting any of the division's       
    collections are advised to write or telephone the            
    Manuscript Reading Room at (202) 707-5387 before visiting.

                            SCOPE AND CONTENT NOTE

                             _Additional Material_



      Material in this addition to the Thomas Jefferson Papers
dates from 1735 to 1943 and consists of correspondence,
notebooks, case book, garden book, farm books, volumes of
financial records, newspaper clippings, and other material.  Part
A contains original documents, and Part B contains photocopies,
transcripts, and facsimiles.  Original letters to and from
Jefferson are contained in the "General Correspondence" folders
of Part A.  Correspondents and recipients include Anne C.
Bankhead, Francis Eppes, Patrick Gibson, Alexander Hamilton,
George Jefferson, Filippo Mazzei, and John Watson.
