Family Member Employment

• The Under Secretary for Management announces the expansion of the Professional Associates (PA) Program. This initiative provides additional professional-level, full-time employment opportunities overseas for appointment-eligible family members (AEFMs) and fills critical positions with well-qualified personnel. • The Family Liaison Office is pleased to announce the recipients of this year’s Professional Development Fellowships. One hundred twenty-four (124) proposals totaling $182,517 were selected for funding from the 182 applications submitted for consideration. Read the Fellowship Selection cable. 
• Attend the Returning to Washington Employment Orientation. Two sessions of this program, designed for family members returning to the Washington D.C. area, will be held this summer on: June 24 and August 26. Topics will include: job search information; Intermittent No Work Schedule; Executive Order Eligibility; Executive Order 12721: Non-Competitive Eligibility; the Career Development Resource Center; FLO's listserv, the Network; FLO's Job Seekers Networking Group; and the importance of networking. • The Bureau of Consular Affairs (CA/EX) has a position available for Eligible Family Members with Executive Order Eligibility to serve as a Roving Adjudication Specialist amongst any of the ten U.S. consular posts in Mexico. Read more
• The Bureau of Consular Affairs has developed a new FMA opportunity: the Professional Adjudication Specialist (PAS) Program. The PAS program will allow qualified Eligible Family Members (EFMs) to receive visa and passport adjudication training and authority and provide adjudication services in consular sections overseas. • AFSA is looking at an issue related to tax provisions that impact Foreign Service family members employed in the private sector abroad. The Foreign Earned Income Exclusion allows citizens, who are not government employees and are living outside the U.S. , to exclude some of their foreign-source income if they meet certain requirements. Changes to the way the exclusion is calculated may impact family members working overseas on the local economy. Read more
