Terry Teachout (New York, NY)

Terry Teachout is a critic, biographer, and blogger. He is the drama critic for The Wall Street Journal, the music critic of Commentary, and the author of "Sightings," a biweekly column for the Saturday Journal about the arts in America. He also writes about the arts on his blog, About Last Night (www.terryteachout.com), hosted by artsjournal.com. He is currently at work on Hotter Than That: A Life of Louis Armstrong, to be published by Harcourt in 2008. His most recent books are All in the Dances: A Brief Life of George Balanchine (Harcourt, 2004), A Terry Teachout Reader (Yale University Press, 2004), and The Skeptic: A Life of H.L. Mencken (HarperCollins, 2002). He also wrote the forewords to the paperback editions of Elaine Dundy’s The Dud Avocado (New York Review of Books, 2007) and Paul Taylor’s Private Domain: An Autobiography (University of Pittsburgh Press, 1999), and contributed to The Oxford Companion to Jazz (Oxford University Press, 2000). Teachout attended St. John's College in Annapolis, MD; William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, where he received his B.S. in Music and Journalism; and the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.
