Betty McCollum (U.S. House of Representatives, D-MN)

Betty McCollum was appointed to the National Council on the Arts for the 110th Congress by Speaker Nancy Pelosi. She previously served on the Council for the 108th and 109th Congresses. Representative McCollum is now serving her fourth term representing Minnesota's 4th District, which includes the city of St. Paul, Ramsey County, northern Dakota County, and western Washington County. In the 110th Congress, McCollum is the Senior Democratic Whip and serves on the Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health & Human Services, and Education, as well as the Appropriations Subcommittee on the State Department and Foreign Operations. She also serves on the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform. Prior to being elected to Congress in 2000, McCollum served in the Minnesota House of Representatives (1993-2000), where she was elected Assistant Leader three times. Before that, she was a St. Paul City Council member (1987-92) and high school social science teacher. A native of St. Paul, she is a graduate of the College of St. Catherine.
