Retired U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ian Newland, left, Army Sgt. Lyle Buehler, Army Sgt. 1st Class Cedric Thomas and Army Spc. Sean Lawson are alive because of Spc. Ross McGinnis's selfless sacrifice. McGinnis, who received the Medal of Honor posthumously in a White House ceremony, June 2, 2008, covered a live grenade with his body after it had entered a Humvee that all five soldiers were riding in. He absorbed the majority of the blast, saving the rest of his crew.
