Volunteers needed to perform seasonal indoor and outdoor work. Indoor work includes: assisting in visitor center, performing clerical and administrative duties, and working with computers and other technical equipment. FWS Visitor Center Host/ Environmental Educators

Position Description
Volunteers will be required to greet visotors, answer questions, present slide programs both on and off refuge to school groups and adults, manage inventories of refuge brochures, assist staff with clerical and computer duties, etc. Work is completed indoors (for the most part) with adequate light and comfortable tempuratures. School group presentations witll include a bus tour and narration of the three-mile Goose Loop while standing at the front of the bus.In return for a full hook-up and access to free laundry facilities, volunteers must work 24 hours per week. During one weekend per month, volunteers must staff the refuge's visitor center and conduct janitorial duties for refuge offices.

FWS Visitor Center Aide - Muscatatuck NWR

Position Description
Visitor Center Aides are needed to staff the information desk at the refuge Visitor Center and give information to visitors, sell items in the Visitor Center non-profit bookstore as necessary, restock brochures, re-fill birdfeeders, and answer the phone. Aides will work under the supervision of the refuge Outdoor Recreation Planner. Opportunity may be available to give educational programs to school and other groups. Work times are flexible, but at least four hours/day is required of volunteers staying at refuge facilities. Non-resident volunteers are required to work at least one day/month. Three types of volunteer housing is available- a double-wide house trailer (with furnishings), a travel trailer (with hookups), and a trailer pad (with hookups).

PARK: Great Falls Park is a unit of the George Washington Memorial Parkway. This 800 acre park is located approximately 12 miles from downtown Washington DC, near Great Falls, Virginia. The park preserves and protects the Great Falls and Mather Gorge sections of the Potomac River, the historic Patowmack Canal, and the surrounding natural areas. This day-use park, open year-round, is a popular destination for local, national, and international visitors. Over 500,000 visitors come to Great Falls to view the falls, hike, picnic, rock climb, kayak, horseback ride, mountain bike, fish, visit the Visitor Center, and learn about the unique natural and cultural resources.POSITIONS AVAILABLE: As needed. Please contact the park. DUTIES: Provide essential technical or skills based services for Great Falls Park. Possible projects: historical/cultural resource research, photography, editing, natural resource research, resource protection, musical performance, clerical. FWS Jordan River National Fish Hatchery

Volunteers can assist hatchery staff in many aspects, including: fish culture activities involving raising/releasing lake trout for the Great Lakes; public outreach; facilities maintenance; tour guides; office/clerical duties and landscaping.
