Aerial Survey Support -- Pilot
Southeast Archeological Center (Tallahassee, FL) |
Location: |
Tallahassee, FL 32310 |
Position Description
The Southeast Archeological Center (www.cr.nps.gov/seac), Tallahassee, Florida, is seeking a volunteer pilot and plane to help improve the Center's aerial survey capability for archeologists and museum staff. Center archeologists and museum specialists travel as far north as Kentucky, as far west as Louisiana, east to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, and as far south as the US Virgin Islands. As the aircraft pilot, you will serve as an integral part of any mission, working as an archeological technician and/or museum technician while on station at a park unit. You will also serve as the aerial survey lead while at the park unit. As such, you should expect to receive training in archeological field techniques and/or museum curation techniques. You must also meet FAA and/or Department of Interior standards for National Park Service pilots. Aircraft and pilots operating under National Park Service auspices should meet the following standards: FLIGHT OPERATIONS STANDARDS AND PROCEDURES (http://elips.doi.gov/app_dm/act_getfiles.cfm?relnum=3115), AIRCRAFT EQUIPMENT AND MAINTENANCE (http://elips.doi.gov/app_dm/act_getfiles.cfm?relnum=3116), and FLIGHT CREWMEMBER POLICY (http://elips.doi.gov/app_dm/act_getfiles.cfm?relnum=3117). Standards are available from the Department of Interior Departmental Manual, Parts 350-353--AVIATION MANAGEMENT (http://elips.doi.gov/app_dm/). Additional standards may need to be met. SEAC is located within 1.5 miles of the Tallahassee Regional Airport (TLH) in Innovation Park. Most destination park units are located within 5 miles of an airport suitable for private aircraft. Some park units (e.g. Everglades National Park, Big Cypress National Preserve) have their own aircraft facilities. All ground transportation will be arranged by SEAC staff. Under circumstances where it is advantageous to the NPS, SEAC can reimburse expenses directly related to volunteer service (e.g. Aviation fuel, parking fees, lubricants).
