Darlene Tinsley is Secretary Treasurer of AFGE 3448, and she works for the Social Security Administration in Cleveland. For the last six months, she has been on release to work on organizing, and, more recently, the Labor 2008 program. She also served as a release staff member in 2004 and 2006. She initially became involved in the political aspect of her union when she first was invited to a Political Coordinators Training and a labor walk in 2004.
Since coming to the Senate in 2005, Barack Obama has worked with AFGE and voted in favor of our positions, clearly indicating his support for federal employees, our rights and protections, and the important work we do.
Senator Obama believes that public services and government employees play an important role in the welfare of our country. He has worked closely with AFGE to end the underfunding and understaffing that has crippled the delivery of critical services to our children, extended families, friends and millions of Americans. And Senator Obama has worked with AFGE to help ensure that government employees are recognized and respected for their commitment and perseverance on behalf of working families – despite eight years of crippling neglect and mismanagement by the Bush Administration.

"There are one hundred good reasons for how you to vote this year and only one bad reason. Let's talk about the real issues," - John Gage, Nat'l President AFGE
With the increase of veterans returning home from Iraq and Afghanistan and in the aftermath of the Walter Reed Fiasco veterans health care can no longer be on the back burner.
The need for a fully funded and fully staffed veterans health care program is imperative if America is to fulfill its promise to provide quality and affordable health care to the men and women who have served our country.
Unfortunately,Senator John McCain and some lawmakers are proposing to privatize veterans healthcare - throw veterans into the private health care industry that is failing millions of Americans. That's not the way to fulfill America's promise to our veterans.
That's why the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE)opposes any proposal to privatize veterans health care. The right course is to fully fund and staff the VA.
