Vice Admiral Conrad C. Lautenbacher Jr. USN (Ret.), Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and NOAA Administrator, and then EPA Administrator Mike Leavitt held a press conference underscoring the value of GEOSS to all states and tribal nations on August 17, 2004 at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. Thirty-eight states participated on-site or via teleconference.
