Special Olympic Sports and Empowerment Act, Section 3(a), 42 U.S.C. 15001. |
OBJECTIVES |
This program promotes the expansion of Special Olympics and the design and implementation of Special Olympics education programs. |
TYPES OF ASSISTANCE |
Project Grants (Cooperative Agreements or Contracts). |
USES AND USE RESTRICTIONS |
Funds must be used to support the objectives of the program. |
Applicant Eligibility |
Special Olympics is the only eligible recipients of funds. |
Beneficiary Eligibility |
Individuals with intellectual disabilities. |

None. |
Preapplication Coordination |
This program is not covered under E.O. 12372, "Intergovernmental Review of Federal Programs". |
Application Procedure |
Special Olympics shall submit on application at such time, in such maner, and containing such information as the Department may require. |
Award Procedure |
Applications will be reviewed by the Department. |
Deadlines |
Deadlines will be announced by the Department. |
Range of Approval/Disapproval Time |
Range is from 90 to 120 days. |
Appeals |
None. |
Renewals |
Awards may be renewed annually for up to five years throughout the project period of the award depending on the availability of appropriations. |
Formula and Matching Requirements |
None. |
Length and Time Phasing of Assistance |
Up to 5 years subject to availability of appropriations. |
Reports |
Progress reports must be submitted on an annual basis. Final reports must be submitted at the end of the award period. |
Audits |
In accordance with the provisions of OMB Circular No. A-133 (Revised, June 27, 2003), Audits of States, Local Governments, and Nonprofit Organizations, "nonfederal entities that expend financial assistance of $500,000 or more in Federal awards will have a single or a program-specific audit conducted for that year. Nonfederal entities that expend less than $500,000 a year in Federal awards are exempt from Federal Audit requirements for that year, except as noted in Circular No. A-133. |
Records |
The awardee shall maintain accounts, records, and other evidence pertaining to all costs incurred, revenues or other applicable credits acquired under its award as stated in the grant or contract terms and conditions. |
