Food Web Dynamics Program
National Marine Fisheries Service
Northeast Fisheries Science Center
Woods Hole Laboratory
WelcomeThe Food Web Dynamics Program (FWDP), located at the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), NEFSC, Woods Hole Massachusetts Laboratory, examines the magnitude of predation and the impact of selective harvesting patterns on fish community dynamics. The Program documents predator-prey and competitive interactions among fish populations and assesses the joint impact of harvesting and biological interactions on these populations. The FWDP is conducting research to determine the impact of changing predator biomass on commercially important species of the northeast continental shelf. Species interactions may affect the rate and trajectory of the recovery of groundfish populations as fishing rates are curtailed. The Program is working toward the development and application of multi-species predictive models to meet management needs.
