2009 Hawaii Revisited

IT’S BACK!…BUT WITH A NEW NAME, AND NEW FUN!
GO BACK. GIVE BACK.
THE ORIGINAL HAWAII TRIATHLON ADVENTURE
TO BENEFIT THE CHALLENGED ATHLETES FOUNDATION

Join Bob Babbitt and Rick Kozlowski, both 1980 Hawaii Ironman Triathlon participants and Co-Founders of the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF), in a most excellent triathlon adventure. On August 9, 2009 CAF will return to the birthplace of the original Hawaii Ironman Triathlon for the sixth year. Athletes will toe the line where the sport of Ironman was born, on the island of Oahu, and participate in this “old-school” exploit with family and friends as it was in 1978 – 1980.

Participate as an individual as history has it, or explore the course with your friends as a team (from three to six people), it’s up to you. Either way, your hand picked support crew (or teammates), will be your only aid across the course just as it was 30 years ago. It is a one of a kind experience in today’s world of triathlon, so don’t miss it in 2009.

How it Began...

It started with a question – who was the fittest of them all?

The one who swam the 2.4 mile Waikiki Rough Water Swim?
The one who did the 112 Around Oahu Bike ride?
Or the one who did the 26.2-mile Honolulu Marathon?

It was Commander John Collins who said, “Swim 2.4, ride 112 and run 26.2, and brag for the rest of your life”

And so it was… In February 1978, 15 athletes stood on the sandy beaches of Waikiki and started what would become the most coveted, most grueling, and most rewarding of all sporting events - the Hawaii Ironman.

Hawaii Revisited replicates the original Hawaiian Ironman Triathlon held on Oahu in 1978. It’s just you, your support crew and/or teamates and time well spent with friends. This time it’s not a race – it’s a journey. Retrace those original steps and revisit the roots of how this whole thing got started, and give back at the same time. The funds you raise will help make dreams come true for challenged athletes around the world.
