Welcome to CoreFacts, where we're always short on time and
big on science. I'm Steve Sobieszczyk. Let's get to today's question.
I need a zip code map of the United States. Is one included in
the National Atlas?
Currently there is no zip code map layer included with the
National Atlas. However, in the National Atlas Map Maker (http://nationalatlas.gov/natlas/Natlasstart.asp)
you can search for a place by its zip code and then zoom to that location on
your map. To do this, go to the Map Maker, click on the Find tab, then follow
the onscreen directions.
As far as we know, there are no free zip code maps available
online. Several private companies sell zip code maps, either online or on
CD-ROM. For more information on zip codes, and how to look them up check out
the U.S. Postal Service zip code lookup and address information page (http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/welcome.jsp).
And now you know. Join us every weekday for a new CoreFact.
