Attention all Whooping Crane Fans After all the snow the crane crew had to cope with this winter, they began to think spring would never arrive. But it's finally here. For the folks who work with the cranes, spring isn't really here until the first whooper egg of the season arrives. Whooper pair Spike and Shelly laid the first egg of the season on Sunday, March 23rd, and it was soon followed by the second egg of the season, delivered by Laz and Alta on Monday morning, March 24th. The chicks from these eggs are slated for the Whooping Crane Eastern Partnership ultra-light led migratory project. Ornithology Meeting
to be Held at Patuxent in April 2005
The Councils of the Wilson Ornithological Society and the Association of Field Ornithologists, meeting jointly at Delaware, Ohio, this past weekend have accepted Dr. Judd Howell's invitation to hold their April 2005 joint meeting at the Comfort Inn, Bowie, Maryland and the Patuxent Wildlife Research Center, Laurel, MD. The Maryland Ornithological Society will be a joint sponsor of the meeting. Attendance at the Delaware meeting, which included a symposium on Avian Evolution in the Galapagos, was 160.
