National Archives Publishes Finding Aid for Holocaust-Era Assets Records

College Park, MD. . . The National Archives and Records Administration has issued Holocaust-Era Assets: A Finding Aid to Records at the National Archives at College Park, Maryland. The 1,166-page aid assists researchers in locating records at the National Archives relating to Holocaust-Era Assets, including topics such as Nazi looted gold, art, and cultural items; Holocaust-Era unpaid and unclaimed insurance policies; slave and forced labor; and looted and misplaced archives and libraries.

The finding aid also serves as a guide to records relating to economic warfare during World War II, including U.S. efforts to: freeze, block, and seize Axis assets located in the United States; prevent the Axis from obtaining resources necessary to wage war; prevent the Axis from secreting their assets in neutral countries ("The Safehaven Program"); and to locate looted and other Axis assets.

The finding aid also provides a starting point for researchers pursuing an interest in the Holocaust, as well as World War II refugees, displaced persons, war criminals, war crimes, and postwar crimes trials.
