Summary

The Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT) invites candidates to apply for postdoctoral research positions. CINT is a Department of Energy (Office of Science/BES) Nanoscale Science Research Center jointly operated by Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) and Sandia National Laboratories (SNL) as a national user facility devoted to establishing the scientific principles that govern the design, performance, and integration of nanoscale materials. CINT postdoctoral awardees work closely with CINT scientists to conduct a forefront program of nanoscale science research. The distinguishing characteristic of CINT is its emphasis on exploring the path from scientific discovery to the integration of nanostructures into the micro and macro worlds. This path involves experimental and theoretical exploration of materials behavior at a fundamental level, development of a wide variety of synthesis and processing approaches, generation of understanding of new performance regimes, and integration of nanoscale materials and structures into designed and tested functional architectures. Scientific challenges in the areas of energy transfer, transduction of molecular scale events, and emergent material properties provide focal points for CINT's scientific activities. These challenges are supported by capabilities and infrastructure in the areas of nanoelectronics and nanophotonics, nano-bio-micro interfaces, nanomechanics, complex functional nanomaterials, and theory and modeling.

Required Skills

CINT Postdoctoral appointees may be employed by either Los Alamos National Laboratory or Sandia National Laboratories. Candidates must: 1) have received a Ph.D. degree (within 5 years for LANL; within 3 years for SNL); 2) be sponsored by a LANL or SNL CINT Scientist; 3) submit to the sponsor a complete application package (see below); and 4) apply on-line at the corresponding Laboratory's external web site http://int.lanl.gov/science/postdocs/becoming/index.shtml or http://www.sandia.gov/employment/special-prog/postdocs/ Click on "Career Opportunities" link then "Search Job Postings" link and scroll to Reference #57968 CINT Postdoctoral Appointee and complete on-line application and attach resume/CV To identify a potential sponsor, candidates should review the CINT web site at http://cint.lanl.gov/user_call/scientist_summaries.shtml, which provides CINT scientist research summaries and contact information. Contact the CINT scientist in your area of expertise for more information. The CINT scientist sponsor will assemble and submit the candidate's package to CINT.

Notes To Applicants

Submission Package: 1) Science proposal (one page, including relevance to CINT, suitable for a general scientific audience, written by the candidate with sponsor's input; 2) Nomination memo from the CINT sponsor (one page); 3) Three letters of reference; 4) Resume; 5) Publication list; 6) Undergraduate and graduate transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable in application; official copies will be required before employment can be offered). Applications will be evaluated on a quarterly basis. For more information contact Heather Brown at hdbrown@sandia.gov. Sandia National Laboratories is operated by Lockheed Martin Corporation and Los Alamos National Laboratory is operated by Los Alamos National Security, LLC for the National Nuclear Security Administration of the US Department of Energy. Both are Equal Opportunity Employers.

Pre-Employment Drug Test

The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a pre-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.

Government Conflict of Interest

To ensure that you and LANL avoid any potential conflicts of interest, all current/former Government Officials must read and respond, if applicable, to the LANL Applicant Disclosure Form.
