TRAVEL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE FOR PARTICIPANTS OF THE INTERNATIONAL FISHERS FORUM ON SEABIRD AND SEA TURTLE BYCATCH IN LONGLINE FISHERIES

International Fishers Forum logo Organizers of the 2nd International Fishers Forum (IFF2) have announced the availability of travel assistance funds for fishermen and other participants. Applications are due by October 1, 2002, and all awards will be announced by October 20. Go to http://www.wpcouncil.org/iff2docs/travel.pdf for the IFF2 Application for Travel Assistance.

The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council will host IFF2 at the Hawaii Convention Center, Honolulu, November 19-22, 2002. The primary mission of the forum is to convene an international meeting of fishermen to address possible solutions to incidental bycatch of sea turtles and seabirds by longline fishing gear. Scientists, resource managers, gear technologists, and other interested parties are also encouraged to participate. Given the IFF2 mission, funding priority will be given to commercial longline fishermen.

For further information go to www.wpcouncil.org or contact forum organizers at prc@hawaii.rr.com.
