Fires in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, and South Africa

Compared to previous days, fire activity in Mozambique appeared to be down on the morning of September 11, 2008, when the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite passed over head and captured this image. Places where MODIS detected active fires are marked in red. Despite the apparent decrease in fire activity, smoke was still thick over central Mozambique. Fires were detected in Zimbabwe and Malawi, as well.
