OSM Director Will Visit Columbia, Missouri, to Tour Abandoned Mine Land Projects

WASHINGTON-Jeffrey Jarrett, Director of the US Office of Surface Mining, will visit Columbia, Missouri, Friday, July 23, to tour abandoned mine land (AML) sites and discuss reauthorization of the AML fee.

Jarrett will host a press conference to discuss the proposal to reauthorize the fee on currently mined coal and use of the monies collected to clean up the $3.2 billion of high priority abandoned mine hazards located across the nation. He will also discuss the AML issue in Missouri. Following the conference, Director Jarrett will tour the Cedar Creek and Rocky Forks Reclamation projects near Columbia, Missouri.
