THE EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS INSTITUTE

Since 2002 we have been asked by personnel in the emergency management communities across America for assistance in starting up CERT Units in their localities. The ongoing mission of our organization is to assist trainers in all communities and also individuals in the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) concept.

This concept was created by the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) and subsequently taken over by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Today CERT is part of Citizen’s Corp under the Department of Homeland Security.

Our training corporation and guidelines follows all the rigid steps and concepts taught by the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). One of the FEMA Master CERT Instructors that trained and certified our instructors is now the National Director of CERT for Citizens Corp, Ms Rachel Jacky.

Our ongoing accomplishments has been to assist other CERT Units across America with guidance, training, direction and other assistance. One of our major accomplishments was the creation and training of the “First C.E.R.T. Team in New York City”, “Battery Park City C.E.R.T.” opposite Ground Zero. Today we also assist other organizations in New York state other states.

In April 2006, our organization headed by Peter A. Morici was asked by the New York Guard, part of the Division of Military and Naval Affairs, State of New York to train their soldiers in CERT. In April 2006 we graduated 41 Assistant C.E.R.T. Trainers with the approval of the State Emergency Management Office and DMNA at Camp Smith, New York. In August 2006 during their Annual Training our organization assisted in the training of the entire New York Guard in CERT with a three day hands on class and then a two day disaster simulation incorporated into the final examination.

The uniqueness of our training program, unlike most others, is that once we train or assist teams our organization is still there to support, assist and provide advanced training to all localities that request it.

Our concept is that Knowledge Equals Power for communities and individuals to help themselves, their families and neighbors.

Our course curriculum and training, strictly follows the rigid guidelines set forth by FEMA, and state and local emergency management offices with disaster simulations, hands on medical, fire suppression, hazards materials and cribbing and leveraging. We also interface and work “together” with several other organizations to make the program a complete success across America.
