CDC to Host First Diabetes and Obesity ConferenceWhat: “Going a Mile High Against Diabetes and Obesity: A Look to the Future” Diabetes and obesity have reached alarming rates in the United States. CDC’s Division of Diabetes Translation and the Division of Nutrition and Physical Activity are convening a national conference that will examine these issues and discuss ways to combat these illnesses through improving the environment, changing policies, building better health care systems, and helping individuals make lifestyle changes. When: May 16–19, 2006 The conference will begin at 8am on Wednesday, May 17, with an address by Dr. Francine Kaufman, Head of the Center for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism at Childrens Hospital Los Angeles, former president of the American Diabetes Association, and author of the book Diabesity. Scientific sessions will be conducted May 17–19, with the closing address in the late morning of May 19. Daily plenary lectures, panels, roundtables, and poster sessions will be presented to highlight policy issues and programs that contribute to diabetes and obesity control and prevention.
