March 1, 1999 Contact: Kathryn Harben CDC's 1997 Behavioral Risk Factor Data How were people in the United States behaving in 1997? Curious about which state reported the highest number of people with diabetes? Are more men or women smoking cigarettes? How many of us were screened for colorectal cancer? You can find out at www.cdc.gov/nccdphp/brfss Point and click on Prevalence Data to find 1997 data on the healthy--and risky--behaviors of U.S. adults for one or all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico. The data are from CDC's Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS)*, the world's largest continuously conducted telephone health survey. Topics for which 1997 data are available include:
