This is a three-dimensional relief image showing epicenter locations for the June 1993 earthquake swarm along the central Juan de Fuca Ridge associated with a lateral dike injection. Bathymetry is based on NOAA Sea Beam surveys, and earthquake epicenters were derived from the U.S. Navy Sound Surveillance System (SOSUS). The swarm originated on the north volcanic rift zone of Axial Seamount and migrated over 60 km to an eruptive site in the CoAxial segment. Extensive field observations confirmed the presence of fresh lava flows and hydrothermal activity at the eruptive site.
