Abstract

We have elaborated a method for measuring the elastic moduli of individual nanostructures such as nanotubes, molybdenum disulfide nanotubes, inorganic nanowires, and their nanometer-sized bundles. It was found that the elastic coefficients strongly depend on the production method of these nanostructures and in some cases one can improve their Young's/shear moduli by various manipulations. This method has been successively applied for measuring the elastic response of cytoskeleton protein polymers.
