Communication Security & Infrastructure

The Communication Security and Infrastructure team provides services in the functional areas of networking. We manage and operate the ORNL network (ORnet) and its connection to the Internet. In addition, we operate the inter-site network connecting ORNL, Y-12, ETTP, and other Oak Ridge locations and the site network at ETTP.

The group performs the following functions in support of the ORnet data/video communications networks at the Oak Ridge complex:

  • Design, management, and implementation of network protocol services.
(e.g., default gateways, name servers, routing tables, etc.)
  • Software support for network interconnecting devices and networks.
  • Network configuration and access control.
  • Network technology assessment and implementation.
  • Network architecture design and implementation.
  • Network database implementation and help desk (HDMS) software interface development and support.
  • Software development and deployment of network monitoring and management tools.
  • Supercomputing participation and support.
  • Virtual Private Network (VPN) configuration and implementation.
