Boats launched. Aug 22ndTrucks are moved back to Fairbanks. Grab sample of the Fortymile R. for Carbon. Grab sample of the Yukon R. at Eagle. Paul Schuster and Randy Host give a talk to K6-K12 students at the Eagle Public School. Students are instructed on sampling techniques for a school project on American Creek. Boats are prepared for sampling cruise. Aug 23rdNew 24ft boat by Sea Ark is towed from Fairbanks to Circle, AK and launched on the Yukon R. The Sea Ark is acquired as a support and cargo boat. Sea Ark boats up river to meet sampling crew at the National Park Service's Slavens cabin. (54 miles). Sampling crew departs Eagle and takes a grab sample below Tatondik R. (26 miles). Sampling crew continues to Nation River (20 miles). Discharge by Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP), water sample by Equal Discharge Increment method (EDI) with a D-96 sampler. Grab sample of the Yukon R. below Nation R. Sampling crew continues to Slavens cabin. (53 miles). Aug 24thSampling crew departs for Kandik River (24 miles). Discharge by ADCP, water sample by EDI Lab crew sets up lab at Slavens cabin. Sampling crew continue to Charley River (12 miles). Discharge by ADCP, water sample by EDI. Sampling crew returns to Slavens cabin (12 miles). Lab crew begins sample processing. Sampling crew departs for Woodchooper Creek (6 miles). Discharge by Price meter, water sample by hand held DH-77 sampler. Aug 25thSampling crew samples Coal Creek near Slavens cabin. Discharge by Price meter, water sample by DH-77. Lab crew process Coal Cr. Sample. Lab and sampling crews depart for Circle, AK (54 miles). Lodging at Circle Hot Springs Resort. Gear and food delivery arrives from Fairbanks. Boat motor repair, requires trip to Fairbanks for parts. Aug 26thSampling crew samples the Yukon R. 8 miles above Circle. Discharge by ADCP, water sample by EDI. Crew returns to Circle. Boat is taken to Fairbanks for repairs, returns at 1am. Aug 27thBoats depart for Ft Yukon, AK (67 miles). Road crew returns to Fairbanks with processed samples. Some of road crew flies to Ft Yukon with supplies. Lodging at BLM's fire station. Lab set up at fire station. Aug 28thSampling crew departs for Sheenjek R. (59 miles). Sept 1stPart of crew flies out to Fairbanks with processed samples. Lab crew finishes sample processing. Pack up and clean up of BLM fire station. Preparations for tomorrow's departure. Sept 2ndSampling crew departs for Hadweenzic R. (58 miles) Lab/support crew departs for Beaver, AK. Hadweenzic R. sampled. Discharge by ADCP, water sample by EDI. Boats continue to Dall R. Discharge by ADCP, water sample by EDI. Boats continue to Dalton Highway bridge (26 miles) Grab sample of Yukon R. at bridge. Crew and boats head back to Fairbanks. Sept 5thLab crew processes remaining samples. Part of crew returns to "Lower 48" Sept 6thBoats are taken out and stored for winter. Supplies and equipment packed and stored for winter. Sept 7thRemainder of crew leave for "Lower 48". |
