I am again inviting California students to help celebrate Earth Day by submitting a poster to my Earth Day Poster contest. As the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works, I am encouraging elementary school students to submit posters on the steps we can all take to improve our earth.
Rules for the contest are as follows:
1. Posters must be submitted on 8-1/2 x 11 paper (landscape or portrait).
2. Only crayons, magic markers or colored pencils should be used.
3. The poster must feature the theme “Improving Our Earth."
4. On the reverse side of the poster, the following information must be listed:
- Student's name
- Grade level
- Teacher's name
- School's name
- School’s address
Entries will be judged in three categories: kindergarten through second grade, third through fourth grade, and fifth through sixth grade. Three winners will be selected from each category, and, with parental permission, the artwork will be posted on my Senate website.
All entries must be postmarked by April 4, 2008 to be included in the contest. Posters will not be returned once submitted.
Please mail all entries to:
Senator Barbara Boxer
312 North Spring Street, Suite 1748
Los Angeles, CA 90012
Winners will be announced to the students' schools, and parental permission will be sought before the posters are featured on my website. Winners will receive a packet of native wildflower seeds and a certificate honoring their work.
