Scott Jones Named SBA Young Entrepreneur Of The Year
Owner, Beyond Clothing, Eugene, Oregon
WASHINGTON, D.C. Mr. Scott Jones, owner of Beyond Clothing in Eugene, Ore., has been named the National SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year by the Office of Advocacy of the SBA. He received the award for his business success while under 30 years old.
"Our economy is in good hands when we have young entrepreneurs like Scott Jones," said Thomas M. Sullivan, Chief Counsel for Advocacy. "His work ethic has built a unique, custom-designed fleece clothing company thats creating jobs right here at home. Hes gone from only having a dollar a day for food to employing 13 people. His commitment to a vision of what can be, and striving for excellence are the warp and woof of the American Dream," he said.
The award is given to an individual under 30 years old who has served for three years as a majority owner of a small business, or who bears principal responsibility for operating the business. Evaluation criteria include success as measured by sales and profits, jobs created, creative business methods, and demonstration of long-term entrepreneurial potential.
The Office of Advocacy annual awards include Entrepreneurial Success, Financial Services Advocate, Home-Based Business Advocate, Minority Small Business Advocate, Research Advocate, SBA Young Entrepreneur, Small Business Exporter, Small Business Journalist, Veteran Small Business Advocate, and Women in Business Advocate.
National Advocate award winners will be honored during the National Entrepreneurship Conference & Expo, held September 15-20, 2003, in Washington, D.C.
