Aug 20th - 23rd

All field personnel, supplies, and equipment in Fairbanks, AK

Yukon River trip preparations.

Aug 24th

Start of field trip.

Mobilize field crew and boats (Cargo, Prop, and Jet) to the Yukon River at the Dalton Hwy Bridge.

Collected grab samples from Yukon River at Bridge

Lodging at Yukon River Camp.

Aug 25th

Sampled Ray River. Discharge by Acoustic Doppler Current Profiler (ADCP). Composite water sample with a D-96 sampler by Equal Discharge Increment method (EDI). Raining and cold. Difficult to sample.

Sampled Hess Creek. ADCP, no EDI, velocity too low. Jerican grab in centriod of flow.

Grab samples from Yukon below Ray and Yukon below Hess.

Support/Lab crew returns to Fairbanks. Processed grab samples. Finished at 5 pm.

Field crew continued to Tanana. 142 miles. Arrived at 6pm. Lodged at B&B.

Aug 26th

AM, packed and left samples with Tanana airport agent. Topped off boat gas tanks.

Lab crew received Ray, Hess, Tozitna at 5 pm. Finished processing at 11 pm.

Raining, cold. Difficult to sample. Sampled Tozitna River. ADCP and EDI. Crew splits. Cargo boat goes back to Tanana and ships sample to Fairbanks.

Field crew rendezvous at Bible Camp at 7 pm. 107 miles.

Field crew lodges at Bible Camp, arrived 7 pm.

Aug 27th

Early AM start. Sampled Nowitna River. ADCP and EDI.

Grab samples at Yukon below Nowitna.

Ran Tozitna and Nowitna samples into Ruby for afternoon flight to Fairbanks.

Sampled Melozitna River. ADCP and EDI.

Grab sample from Yukon below Melozitna.

Lab crew received Nowitna at 6 pm. Finished processing at 8:30 pm.

Field crew arrives back in Ruby. 48 miles. Lodged at Moose Camp B&B.

Aug 28th

Sampled Yukon at Ruby. ADCP and EDI.

Bob Hirsch flies back to Fairbanks with Melozitna and Yukon at Ruby samples.

Top off all boat gas tanks.

Sampled Yuki River and Yuki DUP. ADCP and EDI.

Grab sample at Yukon below Yuki.

Lab crew picked up Hirsch and samples in early afternoon. Finished processing at 8:30 pm.

Van Erp and re-supplies arrived in Galena in afternoon. Field crew arrived in Galena at 6 pm. 59 miles. Lodging at Huntington's B&B.

Aug 29th

AM, Shiller flies back to Fairbanks with Yuki and Yukon at Ruby samples.

Sampled Koyukuk River. ADCP and EDI.

Grab samples from Yukon below Koyukuk.

Ran samples into Nulato and got them on a plane with minutes to spare.

Lab crew picked up Shiller and samples. Finished processing at 6:30 pm.

Lab crew picked up Koyukuk sample at 8 pm. Finished processing at 11 pm.

Field crew arrived at Nulato camp (sand bar across from Nulato) at 4 pm. 62 miles.

Aug 30th

Sampled Nulato River. ADCP ("boogie Doppler"), centriod grab, velocity to low.

Field crew arrived at Kaltag in afternoon. Airport agent drove us to get boat gas tanks filled, water tanks filled and more supplies at general store. We left the samples with him for the next flight out to Fairbanks.

Lab Crew received Nulato sample at 7 pm. Finished processing at 10 pm.

Field crew arrives at camp (sand bar < 1 mi down from Yukon at Kaltag site 8 pm. 50 miles.

Aug 31st

Field crew brought Kaltag sample back to Kaltag airport agent for afternoon flight.

Lab crew received and processed Kaltag sample.

Travel day. Field crew arrived at Grayling 2 pm. No samples. 142 miles. Lodging at Shirley's B&B. Cleaned boats, Hydrolab maintenance, organized and cleaned coolers.

Sept 1st

Sampled Anvik and Bonasila Rivers. ADCP and EDI.

Grab samples at Yukon below Anvik and Yukon below Bonasila.

Field crew arrived in Holy Cross at 6:30 pm. 62 miles. Shuttled gear to Holy Cross Lodge.

Sept 2nd

Sampled Innoko River. ADCP and EDI.

Grab sample from Yukon below Innoko.

Returned to Holy Cross. Packed and left all samples with airport agent for afternoon flight. Topped off all boat tanks.

Field crew arrived at camp (sand bar somewhere down river from Marshall) in late evening. ~180 miles.

Sept 3rd

Sampled Atchuelinguk River. ADCP and EDI

Sampled Yukon River at Pilot Station. Grab samples in centriod of flow. No ADCP, too windy, large chop, too dangerous.

Sampled Andreafsky River. ADCP and EDI.

Grab samples from Yukon below Andreafsky.

Samples were held in Holy Cross because of false allegations that the coolers were full of poached moose meat.

Field crew arrived at St Mary's in late evening. ~60 miles. Shuttled all gear up to Roz's B&B.

Sept 4th

Secured boats for barge back up river to Tanana.

All samples arrived in Fairbanks.
