A Brief History.

I am a Scientist in the Computer Science Research group of the Computer Science and Mathematics Division at the US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). I joined ORNL in August 2003. My work at ORNL straddles both basic and applied distributed systems research. On the applied side of things, I work on building a distributed computing/data management solution for the DOE's Spallation Neutron Source. From a basic research standpoint, I work on: (i) novel distributed storage systems for scientific data management and (ii) CenterSS, an effort to exploit the entire HPC center storage and beyond in order to improve data availability and alleviate I/O bandwidth bottleneck issues in leadership class supercomputing facilities.

I received a Ph.D. and Masters in Computer Science from the University of Mississippi in 2003 and 1998 respectively. My doctoral work (at Argonne National Laboratory, in Chicago, where I was on a Givens Fellowship and a Dissertation Fellowship) addressed data access issues in the Globus Data Grid environment. Prior to that, I was working on transforming Linux into a Distributed OS. In what appears to be my previous life (if you believe in that sort of a thing :)), obtained a bachelors degree in computer science from Karnatak University in India in 1996. I grew up in Madras, South India.

In the past I've worked on several incarnations of the distributed resource management problem. Basically, I like designing, building, analyzing and testing Computer Systems - more of an Experimentalist. Talking about experimentalists, here's an interesting article on two basic types of computer researchers and how to insult them - Essay.Criticize.
