Commandant's Leadership Advisory Council
The purpose of the Leadership Advisory Council is to provide the commandant with feedback from the field on the Coast Guard leadership program - how it's working, how it can be improved, and the direction for the future. 

Leadership Development Policy Statement
This statement was signed by ADM Allen in 2007 and distributed Coast Guard-wide for posting at Coast Guard units.

Spotlight on Leadership
Ran March 2008. This annual campaign provides the opportunity Coast Guard-wide for units and personnel to focus on leadership development and recognition.

Leadership Competencies
Revised in 2004: the Coast Guard's 28 Leadership Competencies

Leadership Development Framework
Combines the 28 Leadership Competencies with five responsibility levels that apply to all employees (worker, first-line supervisor, mid-level manager, senior manager, and executive). Provides the expertise anticipated at each level. Offers a variety of ways to gain and demonstrate the anticipated expertise (training, voluntary education, and other learning opportunities). Officer Advanced Education in Organizational Leadership
Earn a master's degree in Organizational Leadership. This is an annual competitive program funded by the Coast Guard.

Inspirational Leadership Awards
Each year, four Coast Guard people are selected to receive prestigious leadership awards. 

Essay Program
Provides a forum for a study and exchange of dialogue on leadership issues.

Innovative Leadership Initiatives
Many Coast Guard units are using innovative leadership initiatives to train and retain the experienced people that we need. This site was created to help units share proven leadership initiatives.

Needs Assessments

Several needs assessments (studies) have been conducted to focus on the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities (KSAAs) needed for optimal performance and to develop solutions so that our people meet the desired KSAAs.

Note: Within these files, you will find the "optimal" traits (knowledge, skills, attitudes, and abilities) the Coast Guard desires of each group, e.g., senior enlisted, nonrates, civilians, and junior officers.
