FUTURE ORNL
A Campus for the Next Generation of Great Science

In 1943, more than 6000 workers began construction of some 150 buildings that became known as Oak Ridge National Laboratory. As we celebrate ORNL's 60th anniversary, we are literally rebuilding the laboratory. The $300-million modernization plan, in addition to the $1.4-billion Spallation Neutron Source, will make it possible for ORNL to attract the next generation of world-class scientists to Oak Ridge.

A privately funded facitity constructed on land deeded from the Department of Energy.

Privately funded facilities: Constructed on land deeded from the Department of Energy, the 300,000 square-foot facility will house state-of-the-art labs for energy and computational science. Completion date: 2003
