SUBJECT: Insurable Rice Acreage for the 1998 Crop Year


BACKGROUND:

Effective for the 1998 crop year, section 7, Insurable Acreage, of the Rice Crop Provisions 
states: 

"We will not insure any acreage planted to rice the preceding crop year unless allowed by the
Special Provisions."  In many rice producing areas it is a common practice to plant rice on 
acreage that was planted to rice the previous year; however, the appropriate 1998 Special 
Provision statements were inadvertently omitted in the Special Provisions of Insurance.

ACTION:

Effective for the 1998 crop year only, in those states and counties for which a premium rate 
for rice has been provided, rice acreage planted to rice the preceding crop year will be 
insurable.  The Special Provisions of Insurance for 1999 and succeeding crop years will 
include applicable rotational statements regarding insurability of rice.
