ANNOUNCEMENTS

SEBSCC proposals are due 4/30.

The AFSC and PMEL FOCI Directors, Art Kendall and Phyllis
Stabeno, will hold open, quasi-weekly, informal meetings, when possible.
Email will be sent out ahead of time.

National Geographic has requested that NOAA provide
a list of science topics for development and public presentation. FOCI
will contribute items of potential interest, such as last year's anomalous
conditions in the Bering Sea, through ERL Headquarters.

PMEL FOCI has revised its data danagement structure.
Each sensor used for physical oceanography and meteorology has a mentor.
The structure will be posted on the WWW.

Jim Schumacher invites contributions to a special ASLO
'99 session that he is co-chairing. The session is on "Early signs of ecosystem
response to global climate change: life in the 21st century." ASLO '99
will take place in February 1999 in Santa Fe, NM.
FIELD SEASON
-
There is presently a pollock egg collection cruise from
Shelikof Strait to the Bering Sea led by Art Kendall aboard the Miller
Freeman. This cruise will be followed by Bering Sea mooring and biophysical
sampling operations.

Michelle Bullock, PMEL, continues the search for a ship
for this fall's biophysical cruise. Proposals have been sent to Russia,
and an answer is expected next week. She is also checking on Canadian and
American Coast Guard vessels.

Cruise instructions and ensuing cruise reports for all
FOCI cruises are published on the WWW and are accessible through the FOCI
home page at http://www.pmel.noaa.gov/foci.
NEXT MEETING
The next FOCI meeting will be held at 10 a.m. on
Thursday, May 14, 1998, in the CARD Conference Room (3/2065). Lisa Britt
is the scheduled rapporteur.
