Welcome to SCSDB
The main campus of the South Carolina School for
the Deaf and the Blind (SCSDB) is located in the
Upstate of South Carolina and its six Regional
Outreach Centers are located throughout the
state. SCSDB offers programs for preschool,
elementary, middle school, high school, sensory
multidisabled, vocational and postsecondary
education students in addition to a vast array
of outreach services.
The South Carolina School for the Deaf and the
Blind (SCSDB) was founded in 1849 by Rev. Newton
Pinckney Walker and his wife Martha Hughston
Walker when they opened their home as a private
school, admitting five children who were deaf.
The school became a state school in 1856.
The South Carolina State Department of Education
(SDE) has named us a
Palmetto Gold School for
academic accomplishments, and a Red Carpet
School for outstanding customer service and a
family-friendly environment. We are accredited
by the Southern Association of Colleges and
Schools/Council on Accreditation and School
Improvement (SACS/CASI), the Conference of
Educational Administrators of Schools and
Programs for the Deaf (CEASD) and SDE. |
