The original "aero-nautical" charts, produced from 1927 to 1937, were strip maps, oriented along the line of flight between two airports, and color-coded by elevation of the terrain. A section of a Salt Lake City map is shown here. (Records of the Coast and Geodetic Survey, RG 23)
