NMFS Closes Fishing For Groundfish With Non-Pelagic Trawl Gear In The Red King Crab Savings Subarea Of The Bering Sea And Aleutian Islands

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is closing fishing with non-pelagic trawl gear in the red king crab savings subarea of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) effective 12 noon, Alaska local time, February 14, 2003, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the interim 2003 red king crab prohibited species catch limit that is specified for the red king crab savings subarea of the BSAI and is pursuant to 50 CFR 679.21(e)(7)(ii)(B).

The red king crab savings subarea is that part of the Bering Sea subarea defined by straight lines connecting the following coordinates, in the order listed:

56 degrees 00' N.; 162 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 00' N.; 164 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 10' N.; 164 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 10' N.; 162 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 00' N.; 162 degrees 00' W.
