July 9-10, 2001

The Cognitive and Emotional Health: The Healthy Brain Workshop , was jointly sponsored by the National Institute on Aging (NIA), the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), and the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS). The purpose of the meeting was to discuss epidemiologic research concerning determinants of cognitive, emotional, and mental health among adults. It brought together selected leaders in the field for substantive discussions about the current status of existing knowledge, the potential value of secondary data analyses of existing data, the need for further instrument development to facilitate future studies, and potential designs of large studies that might be undertaken in the future. An international group of approximately 35 senior investigators attended, together with a large number of NIH staff members.
