NMFS Closing Fishing with Non-Pelagic Trawl Gear in the Red King Crab Savings Subarea in BSAI

The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) is closing fishing with non-pelagic trawl gear in the red king crab savings subarea of the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands management area (BSAI) effective 12 noon, Alaska local time (A.l.t.), February 18, 2001, until 12 midnight, A.l.t., December 31, 2001, according to James W. Balsiger, Administrator, Alaska Region, NMFS.

This action is necessary to prevent exceeding the amount of the red king crab limit specified for the red king crab savings subarea and is pursuant to 50 CFR 679.21(e)(7)(ii)(B).

The red king crab savings subarea is that part of the Bering Sea subarea defined by straight lines connecting the following coordinates, in the order listed:

56 degrees 00' N.; 162 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 00' N.; 164 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 10' N.; 164 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 10' N.; 162 degrees 00' W.
56 degrees 00' N.; 162 degrees 00' W.

Maximum retainable bycatch amounts may be found in the regulations at 50 CFR 679.20(e) and (f).
