NLM In Focus:
A highlighted National Library of Medicine product or service Drugs and Lactation Database (LactMed) is one of the newer National Library of Medicine databases. It is searchable through the TOXNET (toxnet.nlm.nih.gov) portal, which focuses on toxicology and environmental health resources. LactMed is a peer-reviewed and fully referenced database of drugs to which breastfeeding mothers may be exposed. Included are maternal and infant levels of drugs, possible effects on breastfed infants and on lactation, and alternate drugs to consider.
