Personnel Announcement

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate Charles A. Heimbold, Jr. to be Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Sweden.

"Sweden and the United States enjoy a close relationship and Charles Heimbold will be a valuable asset in maintaining those strong ties. Charles is an involved member of his community, a committed advocate of education, and experienced business leader.  He will serve the United States well," the President said.

Heimbold presently serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and is Chairman and CEO of Bristol-Myers Squibb.  He serves as Chairman of the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania School of Law and is a past trustee of Sarah Lawrence College.  He is the Chairman of the Board of Phoenix House, a non-profit drug abuse treatment facility and was a member of the Commonwealth Fund Commission on Women's Health. and is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations.  A resident of Riverside, Connecticut, Heimbold is a graduate of Villanova University, received his J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania and his L.L.M. from New York University.
