First Friday Forum with Amanda Petford-Long, Materials Science Division:
Gender Equity in Materials Science: a
National Lab Perspective
In May 2008, the University Materials Council held a workshop on Gender
Equity in Materials Science, which was attended by over 100 participants from
universities, national labs, DOE, and NSF. At the meeting I was asked to give a
talk presenting my view of gender equity at Argonne and comparing this with
gender equity in materials science departments in the United Kingdom (I was a
faculty member in Materials at Oxford University until 2005). My presentation
will include the slides that I presented at the meeting, in addition to a
summary of the meeting as a whole.
