Subject: New Look to the FEGLI Web Site

We've changed the look of OPM's Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Web Page. The FEGLI calculator, FEGLI forms and FEGLI publications are still available, plus there are some new features.

First, there is an easy step-by-step guide on how to report the death of an employee, annuitant, or family member. Just click on the "Death Claims" button from the FEGLI Home Page. This section walks you through the process and tells you who to call and how to get forms. It also explains how to check on the status of a FEGLI claim.

Another new feature is Frequently Asked Questions for Employees. There's everything from types of insurance to what happens when you retire or who gets the benefits when you die. We developed these questions and answers from actual questions OPM received from agencies and employees.

As before, there is a section for human resources personnel. Click on the button "Information for HR Personnel". This section currently features information on how to process the FEGLI '99 Open Enrollment Election Forms (RI 76-27). We developed some questions and answers on how to process changes for employees who turned in an RI 76-27 on or before June 30, 1999, and then later submitted a Request for Insurance (SF 2822) or Life Insurance Election (SF 2817), to decrease coverage or to enroll or increase coverage based on a physical or a life event.

In addition to these new features, we updated the FEGLI Handbook to include changes made by Pub. L. 105-311, the Federal Employees Life Insurance Improvement Act. We've also made some changes based on users' suggestions. The Handbook is available on the web site.

The address for the FEGLI Web Site is www.opm.gov/insure/life.
